Frequently Asked Questions

BirdieBall

What is BirdieBall?

BirdieBall is a limited flight practice golf ball that looks just like a napkin ring. BirdieBall flies, feels, and reacts just like a golf ball, but it only goes about 40 metres.

It feels like a regular golf ball at impact and reacts like a regular golf ball in flight. You can hook, slice, draw and fade a BirdieBall.

BirdieBall was awarded the prestigious “Best New Product” when it was launched at the US PGA Merchandise Show.

How does BirdieBall work?

When you hit a regular golf ball it has reverse spin on an axis. If that axis is horizontal, the ball goes straight. Tilt the axis right or left and the ball will slice or hook. The BirdieBall spins exactly like a regular golf ball, so it slices and hooks similarly, giving you accurate and rewarding feedback.

The non-dimpled, straight sides of the BirdieBall resist flight (air brake). The radius on the leading edge and the aerodynamic, open centre encourage flight (airfoil).

The braking aspect provides a heavy feel at impact and reduces the distance it travels. The lifting aspect helps it hang in the air as long as a regular ball traveling much farther. The combination of the two provide a short flight with a long hang-time.

The rapid oscillation as it rotates from air brake to airfoil makes a turbine sound indicating a solid shot.

Why use the BirdieBall?

If you've ever hit another type of practice ball like a perforated plastic ball or a cork or foam ball, you know how unsatisfying it is. They don't feel or fly like real golf balls. BirdieBalls do.

In fact, Avid Golfer Magazine says "You'll swear you're whacking a Pro V1".

Now that the true feel and flight of a golf ball has been captured in a ball that only travels 40 metres, you can enjoy practicing and playing golf in the park, backyard, school, or sports ground.

You no longer have to pay for buckets of balls at the driving range, or struggle to find a few minutes of practice after work at the golf course. With BirdieBall you can practice and play just about anywhere and at times that are convenient to you.

With more frequent and accessible practice you can improve your swing, play better golf, and enjoy lower scores.

  • BirdieBall’s true feel and flight will improve your ability to control a regular golf ball
  • BirdieBall is safer than practicing with a regular golf ball
  • BirdieBalls can be used in small outdoor areas and can even be chipped indoors
  • BirdieBall is a great way to introduce kids to the game of golf

How far do BirdieBalls fly?

BirdieBalls have a remarkable, satisfying flight. Depending on the club, expect a flight distance of between 25 and 60 metres (SW - Driver) with an average distance of around 40 metres with a 7-iron. Wind can affect these distances.

These distances are far enough to show ball flight but short enough to retrieve with minimal effort and make it possible to play golf in small areas.

What are BirdieBalls made from?

BirdieBalls are made from a super polymer - they are not made from PVC.

Can BirdieBalls break?

BirdieBalls are engineered for long life and repeated use but can be damaged through mistreatment and thin hits. At temperatures below 7 degrees celsius BirdieBalls can crack with high swing speeds.

Do BirdieBalls float?

Yes, BirdieBalls float. Don’t have a large backyard but you do have a pool? Bring on the golf.

Can I use driver and fairway woods with the BirdieBall?

Yes you can.

The VelocityTee is an angled foam tee made specifically for the BirdieBall and designed to optimise the flight characteristics of the BirdieBall when struck with a driver or fairway wood.

The VelocityTee Set includes two tees - large for drivers and small for fairway woods, both made from a highly durable, long-lasting foam.

Another option for fairway woods is to play them off the StrikePad. Place the BirdieBall on the raised area of the StrikePad just as you would for an iron shot but instead of hitting down as you would with an iron, sweep the ball off the pad.

StrikePad

What is the StrikePad?

The StrikePad is a lightweight, polymer hitting mat that makes it possible to play shots off any surface without damage to the ground, your clubs, or your body.

It has a printed swing path template to guide you through impact and it’s unique design simulates the sensation of taking a divot - even on hard ground.

How does the StrikePad work?

The StrikePad is a cambered, flexible, polymer spring. The BirdieBall is placed toward the front where there is a gap between the pad and the ground. Upon swinging down and through the ball, the pad deflects downward - it simulates taking a divot - and then instantly rebounds.

Why use the StrikePad?

The StrikePad allows you to practice and play anywhere, even off concrete, bitumen, or dirt. You won’t damage your clubs on the ground, you won’t tear up your lawn, and it is easy to carry anywhere weighing only 500 grams.

Enjoy visualisation of the correct swing path through impact, and the feel of taking a divot even on hard surfaces.

  • Save lawns and parks from damage
  • Protects clubs from damage caused by rough mat or hard ground
  • Reduces vibration of arms and shoulders at impact
  • Practice anywhere - even on concrete, bitumen, or dirt
  • Beginning golfers can easily square the clubface and cannot hit the ball fat
